Those of you who study the Team tab on our website might be aware that for some time we have an Executive Editor, You may not have much idea what an Executive Editor actually does so this first note is to explain just that and to ask for your help.

The Editor.  Basically, the Managing Editor sets policy and the way of working for the Journal and the Library.  This entails editing, in the classical sense, the material submitted to PMWJ for publication and constructing the monthly Journal for you to read.  He has no team to assist in what has become a very heavy workload.

The Executive Editor.  The role of the Executive Editor is to carry out the Editor’s Policy!  Do not think that execute has any violent connotations!

Mostly the role involves dealing with the Peer Review process, details of which you can find under What We Publish on the website.  We have been running Peer Reviews for about a year and so far have reviewed around 50 papers, not all of which have appeared yet.  Our team of Reviewers contains many well-known Project scholars and world class researchers so we can offer help and guidance to aspiring authors.

How You Can Help.  We are getting a steady stream of interesting papers on up to date technical issues.  Artificial intelligence features strongly as does governance in various forms, but what we are not seeing is these topics covered from a practical or empirical perspective.  So what to do?  Well, one solution is to develop case studies on these and other project related topics.

 Dr. Miles Shepherd is Executive Editor, Advisor and International Correspondent for the PM World Journal in the United Kingdom. He retired from a 30 year career in the British Army in 1994.  He is also managing director for MS Projects Ltd, a consulting company supporting various UK and overseas Government agencies, nuclear industry organisations and other businesses.  Miles has over 35 years’ experience on a variety of projects in UK, Eastern Europe and Russia.  His PM experience includes defence, major IT projects, decommissioning of nuclear reactors, nuclear security, rail and business projects for the UK Government and EU.  His consulting work has taken him to Japan, Taiwan, USA and Russia.  Past Chair and Fellow of the Association for Project Management (APM), Miles is also past president and chair and a Fellow of the International Project Management Association (IPMA).  He was, for seven years, a Director for PMI’s Global Accreditation Centre and is past Chair of the ISO committee developing new international standards for Project Management and for Program/Portfolio Management.  He served on British Standards Institute project management committee (2002 – 2026) including 5 years as Chair.  He was involved in setting up APM’s team developing guidelines for project management oversight and governance.  Miles is based in Salisbury, England and can be contacted at miles.shepherd@msp-ltd.co.uk.
