PMWJ Author Guidelines

We offer easy and uncomplicated opportunities for program and project management (P/PM) experts and practitioners to share their experience and knowledge.  All articles and papers submitted for publication in the PM World Journal (PMWJ) should be original.  If previously or simultaneously published elsewhere, please let us know when submitting the paper (original publication must be acknowledged).  All articles and papers should be emailed to Editor@pmworldjournal.com

We can accept articles and papers prepared according to the style guides provided by most publications and journals.  However, here are some guidelines to help make our publication of your work easier, faster and more successful.

 

Keep it SIMPLE

  • No special formatting, PLEASE – we reformat all papers for publication
  • No headers or footers – they will be replaced
  • Single column – no fancy formatting for newsletters PLEASE!
  • No automated references; use automated footnotes but references at the end of the paper should not be automatically generated as this causes us formatting problems

 

General Formatting Rules

Language – English (American, Australian, British, Canadian, Indian, South African, Other) – translation into multiple languages will be available on the PMWJ website

File Type – MS Word or equivalent (original content is needed in MS Word; we use the word file to prepare a short intro for the journal website; full papers are converted to PDF)

Font Type – Ariel, Calibri or Times New Roman preferred

Font Size – 12 pt in body, 12 or 14 pt for headings and sub-headings

Title – Top of first page, centered, 14 pt, Ariel Bold font

Author Name – 2nd line, just below title on first page

Form – Introduction or Abstract, body of paper, conclusion, references

Headings and Sub-Headings – use as many as you like, numbering is ok but not preferred, can be larger font and bold type

Paragraphs and Sections – paragraphs should contain no more than 250 words (150 words per paragraph preferred); sections should generally include 3-6 paragraphs

Footnotes – bottom of pages ok, automatically generated ok

References – listed at end of paper, can be in 11 pt font

Images, Figures & Exhibits – generally up to 5 per paper, unless more are needed in a longer research report or featured paper; none on front page; Prefer none on first page.

Acronyms – Spell out the word the first time, with acronym in parentheses; use of the acronym can then be used freely in the text

About the Author – summary paragraph of personal background, including current position, experience, education and areas of interest or expertise; headshot photo (send JPG file separate from paper); contact information if desired (email address and website url)

 

Categories of Articles and Papers we publish

  • Interview – Interview of leading PM figures around the world, usually authored by International Correspondents or PMWJ editorial staff
  • Featured Paper – serious, referenced, professional paper or research report; less than 10,000 words, 5-20 pages; conference-quality preferred
  • Advisory Article – advice on how to solve a P/PM problem or address an issue, based on experience or expertise; 1,500 words or less, 6-12 paragraphs
  • Commentary – personal viewpoint or opinion piece; 1,500 words or less, 6-12 paragraphs
  • Case Study – description of real-world application of P/PM; 2,500 words or less, 3-7 pages
  • Report – reviews of local or regional professional activities; 2,000 words or less, 2-5 pages; primarily provided by PMWJ correspondents
  • Student Paper – from undergraduate or graduate coursework; length can vary according to extent of research, generally 10-20 pages
  • News Story – article about person or organization associated with a program, project or P/PM profession, or describing future or recently concluded P/PM event or professional activity, research, education, publication or other news related to P/PM; stories about programs and projects are welcome; 1,000 words or less, 1-2 pages
  • Personal Story – discussion of personal experience related to a program, project or P/PM career; up to 2,500 words, 3-10 pages

For exceptions, please discuss with the editor when submitting the paper.

 

ARCHIVES

All contents of the PM World Journal are archived in the PM World Library.  Authors each have an AUTHOR SHOWCASE webpage in the library where her or his author profile will be posted, along with links to works by the author that are included in the library.
