2024 Achievements and 2025 Plans

of

Italy’s Project Management Associations

Introduction

In this inaugural 2025 report, we will analyze the results achieved in 2024 by the main Project Management Associations operating in Italy, as well as the outlook and initiatives planned for the current year. Over the past year, each Association has outlined and announced its key events, defining a strategic roadmap aimed at promoting the dissemination of skills and certifications in the field of Project Management. An analysis of the data related to new credentials issued in 2024 highlights an average growth of 13.7% in the number of certified professionals, marking a significant increase compared to 2023[1] (+4.7%). This achievement serves as a strong testament to the dedication and efforts of all Italian Project Management Associations in strengthening the professionalization of the sector. Specifically, the growth recorded for each Association is as follows[2]:

  • Project Management Institute (PMI): +6.9%
  • International Project Management Association (IPMA): +6.3%
  • Istituto Italiano di Project Management (ISIPM): +11.3%

These figures confirm the positive trend in the sector and the crucial role played by the Associations in supporting education, certification, and the enhancement of Project Management expertise in Italy.

The Associations of Project Management Community in Italy

The Project Management Institute: Northern Italy’s Chapter (PMI-NIC)[3]; Central Italy’s Chapter (PMI-Central Italy)[4]; Southern Italy’s Chapter (PMI-SIC)[5]

The PMI Italy chapters, started this new year each of them with their own General Annual Meeting in which they resume results and show the 2025 forward activities roadmap.

PMI-NIC General Assembly 2025: A Dynamic and Engaging Event

The 2025 General Assembly of the PMI Northern Italy Chapter (PMI-NIC), scheduled on January the 31st at “Politecnico di Milano”, aimed to respond to the growing demand for dialogue and exchange among its members. In addition to the institutional activities, the afternoon sessions provided opportunities for in-depth discussions, covering diverse and complementary themes with different interaction modes. The objective was to foster connections and bring the PMI:NEXT strategy to life within the professional community.

Open Space: Listening and Networking

The “Open Space” session provided a platform for listening and networking, featuring insights into the Chapter’s activities and brief roundtable discussions. Members shared their professional and associative experiences, promoting mutual learning and engagement.

Meeting Space – Conversations on “Giving Back”

The “Meeting Space” focused on dialogue and mutual enrichment around key themes relevant to the professional community. This segment was structured into three parallel sessions, each exploring different facets of individual commitment within PMI’s new strategic framework:

Filling the Talent Gap – Supporting the growth and value of project management professionals by reflecting on how “giving back” can enhance knowledge-sharing and experience exchange.

Maximizing Project Success – Encouraging a more effective approach to project success, exploring the link between stakeholder engagement and “giving back.” Elevating Project Impact – Enhancing projects’ capacity to drive change by sharing best practices as a means of “giving back.”

These interactive sessions were facilitated by experienced professionals and were repeated in two different time slots to ensure broad participation.
