Dr. Sanele Wandile Nhlabatsi is a Senior Lecturer in project management at the UNISA Graduate School of Business Leadership. She holds a DBA in Program and Project Management from the SKEMA Business School in France, with a research focus on project complexity and resilience. Other qualifications include an MBA International Business from the University of the District of Columbia in the United States of America (USA), and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Swaziland.
She has nine years teaching and learning experience in project management modules for Masters, post-graduate diploma, and executive education programs. Her research supervision experience includes over 25 MBA and MBL students to completion. With over 12 papers presented at international conferences, inclusive of EURAM and IRNOP, her research interest areas include project management in developing economies, international development projects, project complexity, project resilience, project governance, project leadership, project stakeholder management, and projects and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A certified practitioner in Projects in a Controlled Environment (PRINCE2), Management of Risk (MoR), and Portfolio, Programme, and Project Offices (P30). Maintains active Project Management Institute (PMI) membership and currently serves as an appointed member of the PMI Sub Sahara Africa Stakeholder Working Group (ASWG).
Prior to joining academia, she spent over 15 years as a practitioner in portfolio, program, and project management consulting; financial services; and international development management consultancy sectors in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the USA. A seasoned executive with experience within the private, public, and non-profit sectors. Previously served as the Managing Director of Standard Bank Fleet Management and as a Regional Director within Standard Bank Africa with responsibilities across nine countries in the SADC region. Further, she has over 10 year’s project management experience in a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) contractor environment.
