Welcome to the May 2025 edition of the PM World Journal (PMWJ), our 152nd monthly edition. This month’s PMWJ is another diverse and interesting edition, with 39 new works by 55 different authors representing 17 different countries. The new editions this month bring our totals to 5,451 works by 2,111 different authors representing 90+ countries published in the PMWJ to date and archived in the PM World Library.

Notes to Graduate Students and Academic Researchers

Background: We have been receiving more papers for publication in recent months by PhD students and academic researchers at universities in multiple countries (for example, see featured papers below).  Based on the increasing number of universities around the world offering degree programs in project management, it has become apparent that more publishing opportunities for academic researchers are needed.  In addition, many well-established academic journals have high rejection rates, in part due to limited space, as well as sometimes lengthy review and approval cycles.

Beginning in July, the PMWJ will be accepting papers for peer reviews prior to publication.  The PMWJ is to become the world’s first truly hybrid journal for project management, publishing both peer reviewed research papers as well as papers, articles and other works by and for project management practitioners. While the focus of all works published in the PMWJ will continue to be information of practical value to PM practitioners and organizations, we will introduce a new Editorial Review Panel, submission requirements and streamlined review process.  Authors of research-based, fully referenced papers will be offered the option of peer review or editor-only approval; featured papers will then be published in two categories: Peer Reviewed Research Papers and Other Featured Papers. We want to offer a new bridge between academic research and practice.  So, look for an announcement in the next few weeks.

Two Interviews are included this month, courtesy of PMWJ correspondents Yasmina Khelifi in Paris and Aina Aliieva in Toronto. Yasmina’s interview is with Dr. Kelly Heuer, Vice President of Learning at the Project Management Institute (PMI).  Dr. Heuer offers an insider’s peek at some of the educational initiatives underway at PMI. Aina’s interview is part two of her interviews with co-authors of the recently published book The Evolution of the PMO: The Rise of the Chief Project Officer.  The five industry thought leaders this month, Nataliia Zarudnieva, Massimo Santarelli, Sheeba Hasnain, Žydra Tubelytė, and Demi Anderson, have provided unique insights into how PMOs must adapt to remain relevant, strategic, and influential in the modern business landscape/ Check out these interesting interviews.

11 Featured Papers are included this month, by 24 authors in eight different countries.  At least seven of these good papers are academic research results by PhD students and professors, the very authors for which peer reviews might be useful.  Four are by very experienced practitioners and leaders, also deeply researched and fully referenced. Rather than mention all of the titles and authors, I can say that these are substantial works representing many hours of research and writing.  So please review the titles and summaries and read one or two. Several are fascinating and a couple address very significant topics. We are honored that these serious researchers and experts are choosing to share their work with our readers.
