Overview of Book’s Structure

Managing a large complex project can leave project managers wondering where to begin. Just having experience in planning and scheduling is not enough. Managing large-scale projects requires engineering know-how and an understanding of the infrastructure to manage a large project. This book gives the road map, different prospects, and actual examples the author has experienced over his year of knowledge.


This book focuses on the academic-orientated view and ties it to the business process of managing massive engineering projects. Learning the life cycle of massive projects can be difficult to know where to start. The authors bring their wealth of knowledge and experience from a business perspective on large-scale engineering projects. Beginning with understanding systems used in engineering projects to creating a process for the project through tools like the Vee Model, Failure Mode Effect Analysis, and The Hamburger Model allows the reader to learn to apply these processes to their project. The author takes the reader on understanding engineering planning and designing with practical applications. By the end of this book, the reader is introduced to a system thinking approach by exploring methods that address the process.

Highlights: What I liked!

The examples of the tools used to organize a large-scale project. These tools, like failure mode effects analysis and project life cycle, can be re-applied to many different projects beyond engineering projects, and the author gives the expertise on the topic, which ties it all together.
