Zimbabwe delivers US$88million Trabablas Traffic Interchange Project:  A Milestone in Infrastructure Development

Harare’s motoring community is on cloud 19, after the official commissioning of the Zimbabwe’s largest traffic interchange infrastructure project by the country’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa on 30 May 2025. Formerly known as the Mbudzi Roundabout, and now renamed to Trabablas Interchange, the project was delivered at a cost of  US$88 million over a period of three years. The infrastructure project is located at the intersection of Simon Mazorodze, Chitungwiza, and High Glen roads in Harare.

The landmark project features 15 bridges — 13 of which form part of the main interchange and two additional ones located on Amalinda Drive and Harare Drive. Prior to the project, for years, the old Mbudzi Roundabout had been a notorious traffic choke point, particularly during peak hours, causing extensive delays and frequent accidents. The new interchange is expected to significantly ease congestion and enhance road safety in the area. The new interchange features expanded lanes, and upgraded pedestrian walkways, significantly improving connectivity between Simon Mazorodze Road, Chitungwiza Road, and High Glen Road.

The budget for the project was fully self-financed by Zimbabwe without any external funding while the work was executed by a consortium of local companies: Tensor Systems, Fossil Contracting, and Masimba Construction.
