New PMO Qualifications Launched

The House of PMO and APMG International hosted a launch party at the Royal Institution of Great Britain in London’s Mayfair on Wednesday 25th January. The event was to celebrate the new qualifications from House of PMO – called the Essentials.

The four new qualifications mark the first time a PMO-based certification has been created and launched in the UK since Portfolio, Programme and Project Offices (P3O©)* was released 15 years ago.

The new qualifications are certified by APMG International, the accreditation and examination body who also certify courses such as AgilePM©, Better Business Cases© and Change Management©.**

The launch event featured House of PMO’s Eileen Roden giving an overview of how the new qualifications were created and who they are aimed at. The four qualifications include Essentials for PMO Administrators, Essentials for PMO Analysts, Essentials for PMO Managers and Essentials for PMO Directors. Each one is designed to help PMO practitioners gain the essential knowledge to be competent in each one of the roles.

Joining the event alongside House of PMO and APMG International was QA, the leading PPM training organisation in the UK and Parliament UK.

Parliament UK***, which includes the House of Commons, House of Lords and of course Big Ben – shared their approach to developing PMO practitioners which included skills assessments, development programmes and a thriving PMO community of practice.

The event was attended by PMO Managers, Leads and Directors from a variety of organisations and sectors – all keen to see a new suite of qualifications which focus on an individual’s role within the PMO. With hundreds of training courses already attended and practitioners becoming successfully certified, the qualifications are certainly filling a gap in an individual’s capability.

The House of PMO is a professional membership organisation for those working in PMOs today. Initially set up in 2013 and called PMO Flashmob, it transitioned to the House of PMO in 2021. The House of PMO was established to bring PMO people together, creating a home for PMO professionals where they can develop themselves, support the development of others and contribute to the development of the PMO profession. How is this achieved? By developing standards – such as the PMO Competency Framework; providing professional development (the Essentials qualifications); arranging events and networking opportunities (such as weekly events and an annual PMO Conference); providing a platform to learn from each other (the annual PMO Managers Lunch); publishing works, supporting research, tracking trends and providing essential knowledge for PMO practitioners working today.
