Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games
INTRODUCTION
This report is to share with PMWJ readers the news received on the verge of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. I realize that because the Opening Ceremony will be held on 25 July, the Games will have begun before you read this report. Nevertheless, I wanted to share some great information provided this week by the Olympics Committee to the residents of Paris and citizens of France. So here is the news.
Dates:
Olympics 26th of July to 11th of August
Paralymics: 28th of August to 8th of September
Paris 1924
The 1924 Games represented a coming of age for the Olympics. Held in Paris in tribute to Pierre de Coubertin, the retiring president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and founder of the Olympic movement, the Games featured a high caliber of competition. International federations had gained more influence over their respective sports, standardizing the rules of competition, and national Olympic organizations in most countries conducted trials to ensure that the best athletes were sent to compete. More than 3,000 athletes, including more than 100 women, represented a record 44 countries. Fencing was added to the women’s events, although the total number of events decreased because of a reduction in the number of shooting and yachting competitions.

The Torch
The Torch is a symbolic object of the Games: carrying the Olympic Flame and Paralympic Flame, it radiates the spirit of the Games throughout the host city and across the country. With each edition, the Games show that sport is a powerful way to build bridges and bring people together, proving that rivalry is no barrier to respect or friendship. The Torch and the Olympic and Paralympic Flames spread a message of peace and unity, providing a unifying link for celebrating the Games.
The Olympic Torch Relay and the Paralympic Torch Relay will make two epic journeys through the best that France has to offer. These two festive sporting itineraries will bring the Torch and the Olympic Flame and Paralympic Flame closer to the people of France thanks to the support of the Relay’s official sponsors, Coca-Cola, Banques Populaires and Caisses d’Épargne.
