The Virtual Service to the PMI Madrid Spain Chapter Membership

(PM Update from Spain)

REPORT

By Alfonso Bucero

International Correspondent

This month I had the opportunity to contact again, virtual as mandatory now, to Susana Moreno, PMI Madrid Chapter presidente and she gave me her opinion about the current situation. Some days later I received her monthly letter to the PMI Madrid Chapter members, what I can explain to you as follows.

New scenarios are influencing on the way our TEAMS are working, and more important, how we communicate each other. We meet our colleagues, customers, through a screen or chatting most part of our time. However this type of channels provoking that, in those days in which when we are maintaining the 10th virtual meeting of the day, for example, we are so tired that de do not take care of the forms or even of the message, and we are provoking some misunderstandings or being a victim of them. Does it sound familiar to you?

We need to be adapted as soon as possible to this new digital era where the nonverbal language decreases parttime or full time, and nevertheless is fundamental when we are getting across any message because it adds a lot of nonverbalized information that we do not perceive when we prefer switch off the camera, staying too static, or we only communicate through the chat. Because of that we need to be especially careful and guarantee a perfect messages emission and reception from all of us, by adapting our discourse to each channel, person and situation now more than ever. Because we must not forget that one of the main causes of team issues and problems will be bad or poor communication.

PMI Madrid Chapter carry out all their initiatives and projects through a large group of volunteers. Because of geographical dispersion and other Chapters’ collaboration, our communications and activities have been adapted from some time ago to that need and demand of “growing virtuality”. But “face to face” always had a big importance for all of us, because it guarantees a more complete interaction. Because of that we have provoked it in many activities, including our annual Volunteers’ meeting. We want all, regardless the type of initiative they participate, being able to meet each other, sharing experiences, generating synergies and new contacts. This year we will not be able to do it face to face, as it is happening with the rest of activities like the #VOSSE2020, Agora, workshops, etc. that have been adapted to this extraordinary situation. But all the dynamics and activities that will be done virtualy in this session, have been especially chosen to be able to know each other as that unique TEAM that build and push forward our Chapter. Then, if you are a volunteer you cannot miss the IV Volunteers’ meeting.
